Roses Are Red, Days Are Longer… Cote des Roses Rosé, A Wine to Remember

By Valentine Benoist

This summer, skip the flowers and say it with a bottle — Cote des Roses rosé, of course. With its rose-shaped base, delicate pink hue, and breezy South of France charm, this is more than just a rosé — it’s the embodiment of French art de vivre in a glass. Ready to let it blossom at your table? Join us at Taste of London to try it for yourself — just look out for the arch covered in pink roses!

South of France Lifestyle, Bottled

Stretching alongside the Mediterranean coast, the South of France is the epitome of a French summer. Although all three colours are produced within the Languedoc PDO appellation, 52% of the wines are actually rosé. Born under the sun in the heart of the appellation, the Cote des Roses rosé celebrates everything we love about summertime: warmth, elegance, and effortless style - peak Mediterranean art de vivre if you ask us, and a must-have bottle to enjoy with loved ones during summer’s soirées.

The hot Languedoc days are balanced by cool nights, thanks to sea breezes and mountain winds — the perfect conditions for the Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault that make up the blend. Harvested with great care at peak ripeness, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented with precision before being bottled early to preserve their fresh, fruity character. That’s pure summer, ready to be shared on balmy evenings.

One of the largest and most prominent winemakers in the region, Gérard Bertrand is widely considered a global ambassador of Great Wines of Occitanie. A family affair, the estate runs seventeen vineyards' estates from Cahors in the west of Occitanie to the Terrasses du Larzac, extending over 930 hectares (2.300 acres), all cultivated biodynamically.

Summer Flavour, Artful Design

Let’s talk about the bottle. Because oui, you can judge a wine by its cover. Back in 2010, Mélitine Courvoisier — then a graduate of the prestigious École Boulle college of fine arts and crafts in Paris — created a striking bottle design that would later become iconic. Sculpted like a blooming rose, Cote des Roses is a love letter in glass. Gérard Bertrand embraced the creation of the young designer and winner of the 2010 Verallia Design Awards. With its rose-shaped base and sustainable glass stopper, Cote des Rose rosé is your new love language — time to swap flower shops for wine shops.

It’s the kind of bottle you want to keep long after the last pour, even more so if you happen to put your hands on The Art Edition. Dreamed up by the family Creative Director Emma Bertrand in collaboration with acclaimed Australian artist Morgan Jamieson, the bold and bright floral pattern adds an extra splash of colour and creativity to this standout bottle.

What About the Taste?

It is love at first sight: just look at that elegant robe in your glass. The soft, pale pink with bluish tints developing over time towards more orangey nuances. Then on the nose, summer hits again through fruits like blackcurrant and redcurrant, followed by floral hints — roses, naturally —

and a subtle touch of grapefruit. Then the romance continues at first sip: fresh, full, candied yet crisp… Served well-chilled, it's the perfect way to kick off the evening!

Looking for a wine that can carry you through the night? Good news — you can do that too, as it pairs beautifully with everything from shellfish to subtly spicy dishes. We’re quite fond of bright and zingy seafood: salmon tartare, sea bream ceviche or this beautiful Normandy Label Rouge king scallop carpaccio with passion fruit and lime if you’d like to impress. But it can shine alongside cooked shellfish as well —  grilled langoustine or Breton lobster roll, yes please. Need more inspiration? Taste France Magazine has plenty of scrumptious summer recipes to explore.
