What is a Cheese Board?

A cheese board is a selection of cheeses and accompaniments such as fruits, nuts and bread, arranged on a platter or serving board. It’s good for any occasion, whether it’s an appetizer, a snack or even as a dessert.

What Should Be on a Cheese Board?

A good cheese board should have a mix of cheeses with different textures and flavors, fresh and dried fruits, nuts, jams and crusty bread or crackers. Olives, pickles and charcuterie can be added to the mix.

Cheese Board Ideas

Classic French: A selection of French cheeses like Brie, Comté, Roquefort, and Camembert, accompanied by grapes, figs, walnuts, and slices of fresh baguette.

Sweet and Savoury: Combine cheeses like Blue Cheese, Camembert and Emmental with dried fruits like apricots and dates, fresh berries, honey, and a variety of nuts.

How to Make a Cheese Board

  1. Choose your board: A big wooden cutting board or a marble slab is the way to go for a fancy presentation.
  2. Choose your cheeses: Go for a mix of textures and flavours. Soft cheeses (Brie, Camembert), semi-soft (Reblochon, Morbier), hard (Comté, Gruyère) and blue (Roquefort, Bleu d'Auvergne).
  3. Add fruits and nuts: Fresh fruits like grapes, apples and figs go well with cheese. Add a mix of nuts like almonds, walnuts and cashews for a crunchy contrast.
  4. Add Jams and Honeys: Offer a few fruit jams (fig, cherry) and honey to match the cheeses.
  5. Serve with Bread and Crackers: Fresh baguette slices, crusty breads and a selection of crackers are a must for a cheese board.
  6. Arrange nicely: Start by placing the cheeses on the board, then fill in with fruits, nuts and accompaniments.
